Jill Blackmore (Hurd), the owner and operator of Tails and Trails has always been a huge dog lover. With a veterinarian for a father and a CKC registered dog breeder as a mother, it was inevitable that Jill would forever be obsessed with dogs.
At a very young age, Jill began working with her mother to help groom, feed and walk the dogs they had at their house. Similarly, as soon as she was old enough, she began working in her parents veterinary clinic in Whitby, Ontario, tending to hundreds of pets during her 10 years at the clinic.
Jill decided to follow in her fathers footsteps and become a veterinarian, so she attended the University of Guelph in Ontario. Here, she received a BSc in Zoology and Statistics and an MSc in Epidemiology, while also working part time at a local veterinary clinic. After completing her masters, she moved to Newfoundland, where she began her career as a Customer Service Supervisor at Paradise Animal Hospital. After working at Paradise for 3 years, she decided to pursue her career as an Epidemiologist and began full time employment at Memorial University. In this role, she devoted her time to researching primary healthcare with the Faculty of Medicine. She also started a PhD in Community Health and completed the Entrepreneur Training Program. Although the research she was doing was interesting, she found herself longing for the animals she was used to seeing on a day-to-day basis. Her whole life had been devoted to caring for animals and suddenly, there were literally none in sight. After thinking long and hard about what truly makes her happy, Jill decided to leave academia and start a professional dog walking business, now known as Tails and Trails NL!
Jills experience as an entrepreneur in the pet industry didn’t start here. She is also the owner of a small local business, Rep The Rock, which she opened 3 years prior. A portion of all its sales are devoted to the Wellywoo Fund, which she started to help pet owners pay for emergency, non-elective pet care.
Jill is so grateful for the opportunity to combine the skills and experience she has gained through her years of animal care with her university training to bring the first insured and first aid certified, professional dog walking business to Newfoundland!

Amanda is from Nova Scotia but feels she belongs in Newfoundland. Her and her partner, Andrew, moved to Newfoundland in August 2010. She grew up with many types of animals, chickens, turkeys, pigs, ducks, geese, cats, dogs, and bunnies just to name a few- so she’s been around animals all of her life.
She currently has 2 cats, Marble and Badger, 1 Leopard Gecko, Lewy, 1 Sassy Syrian Hamster, Mimi and 2 Foster Bunnies, Snowey and Biscuit. Amanda has a 7 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. Adding a dog to their family is definitely on the agenda but, the house is a bit too full at the moment.
Amanda is very ecstatic to be part of the Tails and Trails team and couldn't imagine a better way to spend her day loving your precious pups.
