Winter is here, whether you like it or not. So, as someone who spends a lot of time outside, regardless of the weather, I’ve compiled a list of the top ten must haves to enjoy your walk despite the winter weather!!
The most beneficial thing to have to make your winter walk enjoyable is a pair of waterproof pants!!! Whether they are used to keep you dry or just to break the wind, waterproof pants are THE BEST article of clothing you will have while walking your dog in the winter!
If you’re as obsessed with your dog as I am, you need to make sure your cell phone is charged in case you find yourself in the perfect photo opp. The cold weather drains your phone battery, so having a phone charger in your car is a must in the winter time!
Functional but warm gloves are important to make sure you can maintain control over your furry friend, but still have feeling in your fingers.
Another obvious must have is a hat. Try to find a hat that keeps you warm, but still allows you to hear things! You want to make sure you can hear someone coming up behind you or vehicles approaching, especially when it’s dark!
Speaking of dark, if you are walking in the dark (which…let’s be honest….is most of the day this time of the year), make sure to wear some sort of reflective device. There are tons of different options out there these days, but having something on you and your four-legged friend is super important to make sure you’re visible.
Anti-slip shoe grips!! There are a number of different styles; some have intense spikes and some are just rubber wrapped with wire. We recommend avoiding the giant spikey ones, just in case you accidentally step on your furry friend’s toe…*Owch*!!
A scarf is another great item to have in case the wind picks up! There’s nothing worse than a cold breeze hitting your face and making its way down your jacket!
Depending on the length of your walk, you might want to bring along some hot packs! They’re a great way to quickly warm up if you find your feet are starting to loose feeling!
And speaking of feet, try to wear warm socks. Make sure they aren’t so thick that you can’t move your feet thought…I’ve heard if your foot is too stuffed in your boot, they will get cold fast since there’s no room for movement!
Last but not least, I’m coming back to the who waterproof pants idea. A great addition to that is a waterproof jacket! If you have waterproof pants and jacket on, plus layers underneath, I’m almost certain you will stay warm!!
I hope this list helps you stay warm and safe so you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors this winter! ☃️👍❄️💕
